Mr Tom Sweeney has been a general surgeon in the Bundoora / Greensborough area for over 10 years. He attended both primary and secondary school in the Northeast of Melbourne and completed his medical degree at the university of Melbourne in 1988. Following advanced surgical training in Melbourne, he was a research fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University leading to his MD. He then continued his training at St Georges Hospital in London where he worked as a consultant surgeon.
Tom has a special interest in laparoscopic procedures including hernia repair. He provides sub-specialist care for a wide range of upper gastrointestinal conditions including surgery for GORD and hiatus hernia. Tom deals with most general surgical conditions ranging from major conditions to minor lump and bump matters. Sharing a practice with Mr Malcolm Wiley, colorectal surgeon, allows for a single referral for most abdominal problems.
He is a surgeon in the Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery Unit at the Austin hospital providing high level multidisciplinary care for complex benign and malignant disorders of the oesophagus and stomach. He is also teaching the next generation of surgeons.
He sees all patients - private and uninsured, Workcover and TAC at his consulting rooms at Northpark Private Hospital and Doncaster Specialist Centre.
