Colorectal Surgeon

Dr. Carlos Cabalag is a General and Upper Gastrointestinal surgeon. He graduated from Monash University and trained across a wide network in Victoria and Hobart to establish a solid foundation in surgery and related specialties. During his general surgical training, he was inspired in the area of gastro-oesophageal cancer treatment and completed a PhD with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Currently, Carlos actively maintains his research profile to be in the forefront of cancer care. .

He then undertook further subspecialty training through the AANZGOSA (Australia & Aotearoa New Zealand Gastric & Oesophageal Surgery Association) program at Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth whereby he performed complex upper interventional endoscopy and minimally-invasive cancer surgery. He continued his journey at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh, United Kingdom and worked in an internationally renowned multi-disciplinary high-volume unit to gain further experience in complex gastro-oesophageal cancer and benign surgery. During his tenure there, he also serviced one of the busiest acute general surgical units in Scotland and obtained extensive experience in emergency general surgery and complex abdominal wall repair. Carlos currently works with the acute general surgery units at Northern and Austin health

In addition to providing general surgical services, Carlos has a special interest in:

  • Cancers of the oesophagus and stomach
  • Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease
  • Hiatus hernias and intrathoracic stomachs
  • Surgical treatment of achalasia

In addition to English, Carlos speaks fluent Indonesian
